Zunicom Subsidiary Universal Power Group
Enters into Exclusive License & Distribution Agreement
CARROLLTON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 29, 2005--Universal Power
Group, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Zunicom, Inc., (OTCBB:ZNCM),
today announced that it has entered into an exclusive license and
distribution agreement for North America with ePIC North America,
Inc., to market, distribute and support a proprietary video
monitoring and management technology called Intelligent Monitor and
Operating System ("IMOS").
IMOS is the industry's first moderately priced video monitor, image
archive and remote camera/image management systems. IMOS' onboard
intelligence enables it to capture images and to proactively
communicate images and alerts to a variety of devices and systems
including security control systems, cell phones, PDAs or pager event
notification, over standard analog phone lines or broadband via
Voice over IP ("VOIP"). IMOS' video capture and communications
capabilities address two major security industry challenges:
increasing resistance by law enforcement to respond to false
intrusion alarms, and the need for economical video monitoring of
business and residential premises.
Randy Hardin, President & CEO of UPG, stated, "We are excited
with the technology that ePIC has brought us with this partnership,
especially the great synergy ePIC's IMOS product has with the
markets we already serve - security, consumer and commercial. After
evaluating many web-based video monitoring products, we have
concluded that ePIC's combination of ease-of-use, seamless
integration, affordability, and sophisticated feature set represents
the best product on the market. This monitoring solution gives us
and our partners a means to derive incremental recurring
subscription revenue from existing customer bases beyond the sale of
the product, and most importantly, a competitive differentiation
based on the ability to offer this highly advanced surveillance
solution for homes and businesses at affordable price points. I for
one would like to know, while I am on the road, when my 13 year old
daughter is home alone and accessing the pool area, for instance.
IMOS allows me to get notified immediately wherever I am, so I can
take more immediate action."
"We are currently pursuing retail and commercial security markets
to carry IMOS. The types of applications are vast, from security
infrastructure for ATMS, convenience stores, fast food franchises,
retail, limited access areas, second home monitoring, residential
self-monitoring, and more. We intend to aggressively pursue
opportunities to sell and service as many IMOS units as possible,
and will continue to identify more technology based products and
solutions for our evolving consumer needs," added Hardin.
Michael Gegenheimer, CEO of
ePIC stated, "We decided to use UPG as our exclusive partner for
North America because of UPG's extensive distribution channels,
sales and marketing capabilities, and third party logistics
expertise. Our product integrates well with UPG's business and we
are confident that this partnership will help ePIC establish our
presence and accelerate our growth in the U.S. market."
Under the agreement, UPG will be the exclusive U.S. Distributor
of ePIC products and services and have certain exclusive sales and
marketing rights.
