Longmire leads Plano wrestlers to tie for 2nd at Lisle tourney
Lisle — Plano's wrestlers captured four individual titles and tied for
second place in the nine-team Lisle Invitational Saturday.
Matt Longmire, who entered the tournament unseeded with a 6-7 record,
stole the show.
"He beat a two-time Class AA state qualifier in Jim Hooker (of
Evergreen Park), who was seeded first," said Plano coach Adam West.
The 10-1 major decision over Hooker vaulted Longmire into the
semifinals against Joliet Catholic's Russ Gegenheimer. He pinned him in
3:33 then pinned second seeded Jarvis Hudson in 4:32 to claim first
place. The performance also earned him the most valuable wrestler award.
Joining him with first-place finishes were Jorge Gonzalez (130),
Brett Lyle (145) and Nick Nasti (215), who all won by pin in their title
bouts.
"They all looked awsome," said West, whose club finished with 156.5
points to tie Evergreen Park. Lisle won the team title with 180.5
points.
Adam Iverson (140), Ryan O'Hara (160) and Kirk Kabala (189) all took
thirds for the Reapers and Brent Day (135) was fourth.
"Brent was down by eight when he hit a flurry of takedowns to tie it
at 11-all," said West. "His opponent (Evergreen Park's Dave Nicolaescu)
took injury time to rest before overtime and eventually won (13-11)."
