Evelyn E. Gegenheimer Magnussen, age 94 formerly of Iowa City
died Tuesday, November 28, 2006, at St. Anthony's Care Center in
Carroll, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 9,
2006, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with
the Rev. Rick Bunnell and Dr. Elvin Thompson officiating. Entombment
will be at the Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Iowa City. Visitation
will be after 12 noon until the services at the funeral home. In
lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Evelyn's
memory.
Evelyn Esther Morris was born September 16, 1912, in rural Lee
County, Iowa the daughter of Everett and Mabel (Hathaway) Morris.
She married Burdette Gegenheimer December 16, 1933, in West Branch,
Iowa. The couple owned and operated Geg's Electric in Iowa City for
many years, and Evelyn also worked as a beautician. Burdette died
August of 1979. Evelyn later married Sam Magnussen in 1985. Sam died
in 1990.
Evelyn loved watching Hawkeye and Bronco football, sending timely
birthday cards to her grandchildren, winning the annual Christmas
costume competition, and dominating every game of dominos.
Evelyn's family includes; daughters, Beverly McMahan and her
husband, Phil of Old Hickory,TN, Judy Chavez and her husband, Greg
of El Dorado Hills, CA, and Patty Thompson and her husband, Elvin,
of Jefferson, IA; one son, Rick Gegenheimer and his wife, Claudia of
Coralville, IA; eighteen grandchildren, and twenty-six
great-grandchildren; sister, Louise Hoopes of Coralville; and
sisters-in-law, Irma Morris of Wilmore, KY and Martha Gegenheimer of
Coralville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and seven
brothers and sisters.
