Funeral Services for Arthur Malcolm "Mac" Gegenheimer

Richard GioimoRichard A. ‘Dick” Gioimo, 65, of Coralville, died Friday, March 23, 2012 at Lexington Square in Keokuk, Iowa.

Funeral Mass will begin Monday at 10:00 am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. The Very Reverend Rudolph Juarez will officiate. Visitation will be held Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. A vigil service will begin at 4:00 pm. Burial with military honors will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in rural Hills.

Memorials may be directed to St. Luke’s Hospital, 6th Floor, CCH (Continuing Care Hospital), the Iowa Brain Injury Association, University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics for Infectious Disease Research — c/o The U of I Foundation or Lexington Square in Keokuk.

Dick was born April 17, 1946 in Iowa City, the son of Henry “Hank” and Mae (Huffman) Gioimo.

Growing up in Iowa City, Dick served in the United States Navy from 1964 – 1968 as a bosum mate.

He married Cheryl Halter August 24, 1968 in Tipton.

Dick worked for 25 years at Hilltop Sunoco on Dodge Street and was also a delivery driver for Car Quest Automotive for 35 years — retiring in 2001.

He helped direct traffic for religious education classes at Regina High School and was also a member of the Eastern Iowa Brain Injury Association.

He is survived by his wife Cheryl; daughter, Christina Gioimo of Coralville and son Chad Gioimo of Summerfield, North Carolina; brothers, Tony (Ann) Gioimo of Houston, Texas and Chuck Gioimo of Iowa City; grandchildren, Dominic, Diamond, Alexis, Karina, Danica and Autumn; mother in law, Madlynn Halter of Iowa City; brother in law, Greg Halter of Iowa City; and sisters in law, Jackie Gioimo of Washington State, Pam Halter of Iowa City and Janet Wedvick of Las Vegas.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Mike.
