Funeral Services for Arthur Malcolm "Mac" Gegenheimer
Arthur Malcolm "Mac" Gegenheimer, age 95 Ft. Myers, Florida, passed away in Ft. Myers, FL., under Hospice care, Sunday, March 11, 2012. Mac was born on March 20, 1916, in Morefield, IN to Arthur Glen and Florence (Booher) Gegenheimer. Former places of residence included several  midwestern and eastern states including MI, PA, and NJ. Mac was a registered professional engineer in PA, N.J, and CN, who managed the design and construction of multi-million dollar petro-chemical and nuclear plants in the U.S. and several foreign countries including: Mexico, So.America and Korea. His desire to develop a strong work ethic first led to employment with Dow Chemical Co. followed by Dow Corning, Blaw-Knox, then Davy McKee Corp, retiring in 1983. He had affiliations with the Free Masons and Shriners. Among his civic responsibilities, he was active in the Coleman, MI Lion's Club, was an advisor for Junior Achievement, a member of Sanford, MI school board, and a member of the Midland County Planning Commission. He served six years as a county commissioner in District #1. Midland, MI. Mac had a passion for reading. His speech was articulate, exemplifying his analytical thinking. He was skilled in completing crossword puzzles and had a love for the outdoors. Always a gentleman, he strove to overlook the foibles of others and sought harmony in all relationships, often punctuated with good humor. He is survived by his loving wife of 19 yrs., Arlene J. Horak; his children, Anne Czuchna of Kalamazoo, MI; Martha (Toby) Fightmaster of Lexington, KY and Katrina (Edward) Fey of Lindenhurst, IL; stepchildren, Denise (Henry) Logan of Athens, GA; and Arlyn (Stuart) King of DeWitt, MI; 8 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; nephews, Clint (Trish) Cookingham of Princeton, WV; and Frank (Marsha) Cookingham of Claremont, CA.; cherished friends, C.R (Doris) Hayes of Cusick, WA, and Aldo (Eliane) Mecenate of Roma, Italy. He was predeceased by his first wife, Clara B. Smallwood; a son, Arthur Malcolm. Gegenheimer II; a grandson, Gregory Lilly; a great grandson, Tyler Lilly; a son-in-law, Carl G. Czuchna; a sister. Mary C. Cookingham and brother-in-law, Owen Cookingham. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of family at a later summer date, conducted by theWilliamson-Spencer-Penrod Funeral Home in Portland, IN. Deep appreciation goes to Ft. Myers Shell Point Retirement Community, who lovingly provided superb care during Mac's long period of confinement. Mac was a special gift from the Lord and is now resting in His care.
